That’s right, my people!  We are going to be present for Dan Wallen’s Copa Nova, NoVA’s best and only full-scale BJJ tounament.  Our own Muay Thai coach, Leo Napper will be competing in his first No-Gi match so come out and support our team!

Check out all the info online at  http://www.copanovabjj.com/

1) I consider food my high-performance body’s fuel instead of just delicious “me-time.”

2) I train just a little bit harder than usual.

3) I have Sarah’s accountability keeping me on track and taking down my numbers (I always did hate math.)

Why you ask?  Because I am competing in my first Jiu Jitsu tournament in three weeks.  The 2009 Copa Nova Brazillian Jiu jitsu Competitions held at the Dulles Sportplex in Sterling, Virginia.  I have been to this comp as a spectator and now it’s time to compete.

I have been concentrating only on Muay Thai for the past three years and just kinda sluffing along in BJJ, but if I want to master this art I will have to put in the effort now.  Competing in a comp is one way a person can get serious in training.  The thought of having to use your art against someone else of equal  competence always seems to be the best motivation.

2009 Copa Nova > Saturday, August 1st, 2009.

Until things are resolved we will be moving all operations to SAPT at 3831 Pickett Rd. Fairfax,  VA 22031

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Coach Napper

While out looking for a t-shirt printing service that doesn’t suck, I happened upon a gym that looked like it turned out monsters.  When I walked in and talked to owner, GMU strength coach Sarah Wells, I found out these monsters are high-school and collegiate athletes.

SAPT (the gym in question) had that feel of a place where real business is conducted.  You won’t find people drinking over-priced designer water stepping away on a treadmill; this gym is all about results.  If it can’t be measured then it’s worthless and that is a gym that I want to be a part of!

Sarah told me that she was looking to start a program designed for fighters (Muay Thai, MMA, BJJ), and I believe that between her passions as a strength coach and her 4000 sqft. facility,  an amazing fight program is just what she’ll have.

We are talking right now about who to bring in to make this happen effectively, but so far things are looking great!  Between Coach Leo’s affiliation with Phuket, Thailand Thai Boxer Kru Sean Douglas and Sarah Walls’ no-nonsense performance training center; Fairfax, Virginia will finally become home to authentic Muay Thai Kickboxing!

Harrington, Don 3Don has been training off and on for the past year and recently committed himself to hard, consistent training.  As soon as Bronze Age HPT found it’s new home in Fairfax Corner, Don jumped all over the opportunity to train Muay Thai on a regular, grueling  basis.  Don has also announced that he wants to get into the ring, so now training will be taken to a whole new level.  Check back for video updates on Don’s progression from beginner to warrior!

You’ve got to be able to teach the basics ( blue belt and above) of a Gracie BJJ system.

Bronze Age HPT wants to offer our students a ground game education.

Leo will be out of town that day so take a rest, you probably will deserve it!
